FAQs - English

Where are your tiles made?

Our tiles are handcrafted by artisans in our Marbella workshop.  We make the tiles from scratch and do not outsource any of our tiles. This commitment to in-house production is a cornerstone of our dedication to delivering tiles that stand out for their authenticity, quality, and distinctive artisanal touch.

What types of tiles do you offer?

We specialise in the creation of decorative tiles featuring intricate relief carvings.  Crafted from the finest quality earthenware clay, our collection boasts a diverse array of designs, shapes, sizes, and colors to suit your style.

Can I order custom-designed tiles?

Yes this is possible but depends on the request, quantities required and current production scheldule. Please get in contact with your request.

How are your tiles made?

We take great pride in the craftsmanship and quality embedded in the creation of every tile. There is a long process from start to finish but the results are worth it.  Our tiles begin as raw material but are transformed through a sequence of painstaking steps ensuring that each tile is a true work of art. Our tiles are carved, rolled, flipped, cut and sanded before the 1st fire in the kiln. Our tiles are meticulously glazed not once, but twice, by the hands of our expert artisans. This labor-intensive approach is our commitment to delivering beautiful tiles that you will love for a lifetime.

What is the recommended use for each type of tile?

Ceramics are so versatile and have many creative uses. Our tiles can be used in kitchens, bathrooms, fountains, steps and wall art installations.

Are your tiles suitable for outdoor use?

Due to their durability, ceramics can be also used outdoors so they make fantastic outdoor decoration too.

Are your tiles frost resistant?

In colder climates, there is no problem to install our tiles vertically. We do not recommend our tiles to be laid horizontally (in floors) as water could accumulate in the relief carvings, freeze and expand.

Do you offer installation services?

We do not install the tiles, but happy to help with any questions or recommend a local trusted professional.

Can I install the tiles myself?

Installing our decorative tiles can be a rewarding DIY project, however, it’s crucial to assess your capability before starting. Take a moment to consider the layout and intricacies of the installation process.

Can I cut the tiles?

Yes, our tiles can be cut. We recommend using a tile cutter with water and placing the tiles face down to prevent chipping.  If the tiles chip slightly, we recommend that this edge is sanded to smooth the edge. Cement / grout should cover any imperfections.

How do I choose the right grout for my tiles?

Selecting grout is a personal expression, much like choosing art. To alleviate the potential stress of this decision, we advise a trial in a discreet area, such as an unseen section of a wall, before committing to the entire space. Our suggestion is to opt for a grout that harmonizes with the tile color. For instance, with our turquoise tiles, we recommend dark brown or medium grey grout. This choice avoids a stark contrast, preventing the grout from drawing attention away from the tiles and, instead, allowing them to take center stage.

How do I clean the tiles after grouting?

Given the intricate relief carvings on our tiles, it’s crucial to thoroughly clean them after grouting to prevent any accumulation of grout in the carvings, which could dry and harden. To ensure the best results, we recommend avoiding a flat, uniform grouting approach across the entire tile. Instead, focus on working the edges, allowing for a more precise and effective grout application while minimizing the risk of grout build-up in the intricate carvings.

How can I hang my tiles as wall art?

There are 2 ways to hang them - Permanent & Non-permanent

Permanent

There are many amazing adhesives available. We recommend asking your local hardware store for product brands as each country and climate is different.  In Spain / UK we have “no more nails”, sicaflex etc. We recommend a thick glue / something with substance (not runny like superglue).  If you will be gluing on to a painted wall, we recommend marking the wall so there is direct contact between the ceramic and the wall (not the paint).

You can use pins / masking tape to give security/support whilst gluing. This can also be combined with the screw system for extra support for the tile.

Non-permanent

On the back of the tile, there is a carved recess and inside the recess there is another carved groove (so the hole goes in and up!) and latches on to a screw head (screw and anchor included).  The trick is to have the screw sticking out the right amount so they lie flush with the wall.  If the screw is sticking out too much, the tile will wobble. - Drill hole in wall and insert anchor and screw

If the tiles are hung in an exposed area, we recommend  adding a drop of silicone for extra security.

Do all tiles have a hole in the back for hanging?

No. The tiles that have the recess on the back for hanging are: Square 30cm, 20cm, 15cm, circular tiles and cutout tiles. Tiles that do not have a recess for hanging are: Murals, tapestry tiles, diamond tiles, arches, column tiles, birds & fish.

What is the recommended maintenance for your tiles?

Cleaning our tiles is a straightforward process. You can use regular cleaning products and a soft cloth or sponge are ideal for wiping away dust and everyday grime.
